Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Since it was December, the streets were completely empty, but once I stepped inside the restaurant, it was packed — clearly a popular spot. I didn’t have a reservation, so I couldn’t get a window seat, but I was seated right away, which was nice. The dish came with a generous amount of olives and garlic, which was a bit heavy on my stomach, but it paired well with white wine and I enjoyed it overall."
"Of all the seafood restaurants in Getaria this was recommended as the best and it certainly lived up to that expectation. Great location overlooking the port with a wide range of fresh caught fish available. The cocochas were incredible, as was the sea bream. the desserts were light but super tasty and moreish, a great end to the meal."
"We came across El Astillero - we didn’t have a booking but managed to get a table (it was early for lunch and there were only a few tables taken) but it soon filled up and the restaurant atmosphere was really vibrant. There were a few tables with views over the harbour (all of which had been reserved) We received fantastic and friendly service, we were offered a menu in English which was very useful. The food was so excellent, well cooked and with good flavours. We watched the food going out to other tables and some of the fish looked amazing. We ordered a plate of Anchovies, Pastel de merluza (hake pie) - more like the texture of filling of a quiche with a subtle fish flavour) and Cigalillas Rebozadas (scampi fried in batter) followed by Merluza a la plancha (grilled hake) and Filete de Ternera (veal steak) We had a bottle of local Txomin Etxaniz (from a vineyard above the town) which was dry and crisp. We loved every moment of our meal, the food is reasonably priced and well cooked. Definitely recommend booking whatever the time of year to avoid disappointment."
"This place came to me recommended by friends in the region hence I was really looking forward to it! Firstly the service and attention from the staff is top class all the way Getting into the food then, all of the ingredients are fresh!! A wide variety of selections of fishes are available. The seafood is definitely my choice here as the proximity of the sea. Definitely try the grilled fish and baked crab!! Reservation is definitely required as it does fill up very quickly so it's well worth making one to not miss this gem of a place. Thank you to all the staff that made this experience very worthwhile and I definitely look forward to coming back again."
"Simply prepared Basque Seafood in a long standing traditional venue on the harbour. It's food prepared with love and top quality ingredients. Our Scorpion Fish was perfect! It was full, we didn't have a reservation but the staff made space and welcomed us."
"Very fresh fish served here. We didn’t have a reservation but highly recommend booking as they have about 8 tables on the enclosed terrace with great sea views. We ordered the langoustines which were a good size and perfectly cooked. Grilled clams was a little small on the serving size for €26 but they were fresh and sweet. Finally we ordered a 1.2kg grilled turbot which was very meaty and perfectly cooked. This was the winning dish for us! Would love to come back and try the other fish varieties on the menu such as the scorpion fish!"
"A seafood restaurant right by the shipyard! Amazing seafood, especially the turbot. It was one of the best fish dish I have ever had, a bit on the pricey side but definitelyworth it. The fish soup was very rich and flavourful. We made a reservation so didn't have to wait. The restaurant is rather large so might be ok without one, but really depends on day and time. We went on a Tuesday for lunch. Overall a fantastic experience!"
"Great location - right beside parking no need to walk far. Food was good and tasty. Service was friendly, efficient and food served fast Prices reasonable"
